GenG make history becoming the first APAC side to lift an international trophy after going unbeaten in Shanghai taking down 6 teams in their path.
They only dropped 5 maps across the 6 games with two of those coming against Team Heretics in the grand final of the Masters event.
Some fans had their eyes on FNATIC and 100Thieves this tournament however, GenG were the ones who sent them down to elimination games which they did end up losing. It has been a long fight for APAC and an international trophy to be brought back.
After back to back grand finals, GenG get the trophy on their second try after losing the Masters Madrid final to Sentinels. They take down Team Heretics 3-2 and they took the final map 13-3 in a dominating display from the duo of t3xture and Meteor.
TH Benjyfishy said: ‘We just arent ready yet‘ after seemingly losing composure on the final two maps getting a combined 7 rounds across the maps.
However, Team Heretics made it to the grand final after playing the entire tournament with a sub, paTiTek, who subbed in for MiniBoo who had to take this event off for exams but also for mental health reasons.
An incredible stat came from this tournament with GenG only losing one game across all international stages this year with that one loss being to Sentinels in the Grand Final of Masters Madrid.
Despite this record, their record in APAC is quite poor, however, it doesnt seem to matter if they only drop one game across the 11 games internationally, beating Sentinels once along the way.
The winners of Masters Shanghai will now look towards Champions Seoul, which is being held in their hometown giving them a huge advantage going into it. If Sentinels are the only team capable of beating them, they should find Champions a simple run for this squad.
