Edward Gaming become the first Chinese team to bring home an international trophy and they take the biggest one of them all, Champions after defeating EMEA’s Team Heretics.

This battle unfolded across all five maps, including Haven, Sunset, Lotus, Bind, and Abyss. As upper bracket finalists, EDG effectively utilized their double map ban to eliminate Ascent and Icebox. Heretics secured a victory on Haven with a score of 13-6, while EDG triumphed on Sunset with a score of 13-4 and on Lotus with a score of 13-9. Heretics claimed victory on Bind with a close score of 13-11, and EDG concluded the series by winning Abyss 13-9.

During the year, China hosted a Masters event in Shanghai, where both Chinese teams that were invited, FPX and Edward Gaming were taken out early in the tournament whilst their opponents for this Champions final, Team Heretics made it to the Grand Final of the Masters where they suffered a tragic loss to Gen G.

They took that and built towards the biggest tournament in VALORANT where they made it all the way through the lower bracket run defeating Sentinels, Leviatan and DRX along the way.

ZmjjKK etched his name in history by surpassing the VCT best-of-five kill record, achieving an impressive total of 111 kills, including 26 first kills. He was honored as the inaugural official Champions MVP. Additionally, S1mon celebrated becoming a world champion at his debut international event, replacing Hoadong as he went to the coaching staff for the winning side.

China, as a region in VALORANT, has always been underestimated in international events as they make flashy plays and can eliminate some teams however, they never made it this far.

This win puts Edward Gaming and more importantly to Zmjjkk, Chinese VALORANT is now on the map.
