After a year of heartbreaking 2nd places last year, Team Heretics had a shaky start to the year with poor performances in Masters Toronto and missing out on Masters Bangkok completley.

Team Heretics dropped down to the lower bracket of the EWC run in to the grand finals after a poor start against NRG. However, they bounced back and managed to conquer teams from all across the road to match-up against EMEA rivals FNATIC.

Despite coming into the series as the lower seed, Team Heretics had momentum behind them going into the final looking for their first international trophy for the organisation.

The series started off 2-0 in maps to FNATIC with Team Heretics only gathering together 5 rounds in total across the two maps. Many fans across the world assumed that the Heretics curse was reigning supreme even a year later.

Despite that start, the series ended 3-2 in Heretics favour with an incredible reverse sweep, slightly telling to the new additions of Kaajak and Crashies possibly not being able to contain the nerves of their second grand final of the year, after their disappointing performance in Toronto vs Paper Rex.

If you looked purely at stats for this series, there were 3 players from FNATIC going positive with not one Heretics player going positive. This shows the clear difference between certain map picks and performances on the first two maps where they played so poorly.

Wo0T earned MVP for his performance during the last three maps solely as the one player who stepped up on Icebox dropping 26 kills on the KAY/0 whilst still providing support for his team carrying them over the finish line.

He earned himself a medal and his name in the history books as the first VALORANT MVP during the Esports World Cup during their first appearance at the EWC.

After this win, Team Heretics will look towards Stage 2 of EMEA and then ahead to Champions Paris where themselves and FNATIC will be heavy favourites to make it from EMEA.

Heretics will face off against BBL Esports on the 18th of July whilst the runners up, FNATIC will face off against Karmine Corp on the same day.
