This match up was, by far, the most anticipated series of VCT Americas so far with the newest super team in VCT, MIBR, facing off against the reigning world champions, NRG.

Map 1 for this big hitter series went to Abyss, with MIBR leaning still on the solo Jett composition that they rolled over ENVY with. However, NRG looked much more prepared for it, and it showed on their (NRG) attack half, with a ridiculous 11-1 scoreline at the half.

Many fans at this point were wondering if the so called superteam was just a bunch of big names thrown together but yet again cannot compete with the top teams in Americas. However, MIBR did fight back on their attack half gaining 6 rounds in total before NRG put the dagger in and closed out Abyss 13-6.

The series then went to Split, where MIBR looked much more powerful and overwhelming with zekken on the Yoru and aspas on the Raze. Most fans were expecting a permanent Double Duelist out of MIBR, however, the first three maps that they played in VCT this year, zekken was on the Controller role.

With zekken on controller, MIBR looked to lean more onto aspas, however, with zekken on Duelist, each round had two layers to it and unfortunately in this map, aspas took the hit and went 10-17 whilst his duelist duo, zekken, went 20-14 taking them into the final map with a 13-11 scoreline on Split.

The final map went to Breeze, with MIBR pulling out the Jett/ Yoru double duelist, and NRG falling back to their Yoru/ Neon that won over Cloud9 in their opening series.

MIBR took an early lead in the series and carried on that momentum on their attack side with a 9-3 half over the world champions. After a, somwhat, comeback on NRG’s attack half, MIBR did enough with zekken and aspas dropping 39 combined kills to take them over the line and end the series 2-1 with a scoreline on Breeze of 13-8.

An uncharacteristic poor series from apsas meant little to nothing in this matchup, since this year, zekken is right beside him on the desk topping the leaderboard for MIBR and taking their team within 1 win from Masters Santiago.

With this win, MIBR will go on to face off against the winner of FURIA vs G2 Esports, where a Best-of-5 will count for the first team for the Americas region to make it to Santiago. NRG, on the other hand, will drop to the middle bracket and will face 100 Thieves after their win over Sentinels earlier in the week.
