G2 Esports continued their VCT Americas Kick Off campaign, dispatching Cloud9 in a convincing 2–0 series victory that underlined their composure and depth across both maps. While Cloud9 showed flashes of brilliance with OXY back in the lineup, G2’s consistency in key moments proved decisive from start to finish.
The series began with a closely fought first map that set the tone for the matchup. Cloud9 came out with confidence, finding early success through proactive plays and well-timed aggression to keep G2 honest throughout the opening half going up 7-1 at one point. Despite C9’s strong start, G2 stayed within touching distance finishing the first half 7-5, refusing to let the game spiral away.
After the side switch, G2’s composition structure began to shine. Their mid-round decision-making tightened, utility usage became more deliberate, and individual duels started to swing in their favour with BABYBAY on the Iso and Jawgemo on the Waylay. Several late-round conversions broke Cloud9’s momentum, allowing G2 to string together crucial rounds and eventually close out the map 13–11. It wasn’t flashy, but it was controlled — exactly what G2 needed to take the series lead.
Cloud9 attempted to reset on the second map, matching G2 round for round early on and keeping the scoreline even heading into halftime at 6-6. However, once play resumed, the gap between the two sides became increasingly clear.
G2 dictated the pace after the break, repeatedly finding openings through disciplined defaults and sharp reads on Cloud9’s setups. Their post-plant retakes and trading were particularly effective, denying C9 the chance to build momentum. While Cloud9 fought to stay alive, G2 consistently shut down comeback attempts and maintained economic control.
With pressure building, G2 closed the map 13–9, sealing the sweep and ending the series without the need for a decider.

The 2–0 victory sends a strong message from G2, who looked comfortable under pressure and confident in their identity despite losing their recent series in a close 2-1 affair against FURIA. Their ability to stay composed in close rounds and convert advantages cleanly will make them a dangerous opponent as the tournament progresses.
For Cloud9, the loss highlights areas to refine, particularly in late-round execution and maintaining momentum after promising starts. While the result is disappointing, there were enough positives to suggest they remain competitive heading into their next matches with Demon1 out of the substitute position and OXY back into the roster.
G2 move forward with momentum on their side — and with a performance that reinforces their status as one of the teams to beat in VCT Americas.
