The VCT Champions 2024 winners, EDward Gaming, exit Masters Santiago at the hands of T1, showcasing a shocking performance from 4 of the 5 that won Champions Seoul only 2 years ago.
ZmjjKK was one of the best players so far at Masters Santiago, despite this, it wasn’t enough for EDG to make it past the Swiss-Stage, being the first team eliminated from the tournament after two poor performances from the team.
Map 1 of the series went to Bind, where Autumn, Former T1 head coach, opted for cb to be the primary Duelist and ZmjjKK to move to Chamber, allowing him to utilise his Operator skill which he has showcased at former international tournaments.
Despite this choice, it was T1 that dominated the series with BuZz on the Waylay winning 5 first entries and taking up so much space on the sites without losing his life, with iZu following up his teammate and clearing out site for the safe plant and easy execution.
T1 took the first map 13-1, asserting a dominant start to this elimination series, sending a strong message to EDG. It is T1’s recent win at Masters Bangkok that will reign supreme over EDG’s win at Champions Seoul.
Map 2 went to Haven, where EDward Gaming had a stronger fighting spirit, with the same composition of ZmjjKK on the Chamber and cb on the solo Duelist Neon. T1 went back to the Gen.G composition from 2024, where the lurking Viper alongside the solo Neon allowed for strong site takes, alongside the elimination of the early rotate from B opening up even more space, pulling rotates from their destined site.
T1 continued their form and closed out Haven 13-10 marking the end of Masters Santiago for EDward Gaming, and the survival of the Masters Bangkok winners.
With this win, T1 will look to face off against another side that is at a 1-1 scoreline, they will face one of the following teams:
- NRG
- Winner of G2/ Xi Lai Gaming
They cannot face Team Liquid as they have already faced them previously, losing 0-2 and putting them into this series against EDward Gaming.
